This is a short but very effective review of Daemon by Daniel Suarez. I love the book and I strongly recommend everybody - not only hackers, geeks and gamers - to read it. The story is about a computer programme called the "Daemon" that takes over the control of many private and corporate computers and networks. The Daemon was designed by Matthew Sobol who was the CEO of CyberStorm, a leading online gaming company. Now Sobol is dead and the Daemon lives. The Daemon recruits human beings to join his course within hidden levels of 2 famous CyberStorm online games. The Daemon recruits are organised in factions that operate in similar ways than independent terror cells. Daemon recruits all use wearable GPS-powered computers that enable secure communications in the darknet, the underground of the Internet that only people with the right keys and access rights can use. So do yourself a favour, buy and read Daemon and become a Daemon recruit yourself longing for the sequence called "Freedom" to be published next year. |
